Architectural Conservation of the Middle Ground
Not every building that matters to us is a national monument or an architectural landmark. Many are ordinary, familiar places that contribute to the character of our neighbourhoods and hold memories for the communities around them.
Yet, when these buildings face redevelopment, the discussion often comes down to a choice between conservation and demolition. Is there a middle ground?
ICOMOS Singapore is organising a public panel discussion, Architectural Conservation of the Middle Ground, to explore this question and consider whether a more nuanced approach to architectural conservation is possible in Singapore.
On 24 October 2026, we hope to bring together different perspectives on how we might better recognise and manage the heritage value of buildings that fall outside our existing conservation framework.
Do join us for the discussion. All are welcome.
